The story behind Boilerworx
Simon Lewis started Boilerworx in 2009. A friend was already in the trade and seemed to enjoy it, and Simon's previous employer paid for him to retrain. The two things lined up at the right time, and Boilerworx has been running ever since.
Through those early years he subcontracted for British Gas, installing boilers across the South West. He also worked for Liberty Gas on the Exeter City Council combi upgrade programme. Those jobs put him through hundreds of installations on top of the work coming in directly to Boilerworx, and built up the kind of practical experience you only get by doing the same thing in a lot of different houses.
The Boilerworx side has always been the priority. Simon liked working directly with people he could get to know, in a small enough area that he could reach them quickly when something went wrong. Most of the customers from the early days are still with him now. Some of them have been Boilerworx customers for over fifteen years.
What makes Boilerworx different
No call centres, no quote chasers, no engineer who turns up not knowing what was discussed last week. The same person every time.
You speak to Simon directly
The phone call, the survey, the install, the service, the aftercare. All the same person. Nothing gets lost in translation between sales and the engineer because there is no separation. The person who quotes you is the person who fits your boiler.
Local response times
Boilerworx works exclusively in Torbay and the immediate surrounding area. Most repair callouts get attended within 24 hours. That's only possible because Simon isn't trying to cover a 50-mile radius from a depot somewhere.
Keeps his word
If something is promised, it happens. If a return visit is needed for a part, it's booked there and then. Simon doesn't like letting customers down, which is why most of his work has come through repeat customers and word of mouth for the last sixteen years.
Long-term relationships
Some Boilerworx customers have been with the business since the start. The kind of customer who asks how the kids are doing, then tells you all about their own. That's not how you describe a company customer relationship, that's how you describe being part of someone's wider circle.
Manufacturer-accredited
Specialist training direct from Viessmann, Vaillant, Glow-worm and Ideal. That's what unlocks the longest warranties on those boilers, and it's what gives you confidence the engineer fitting your new boiler has been signed off by the people who built it.
Honest pricing
Fixed prices on the website. No call-out fees you only find out about after the engineer has left. No commission-driven recommendations. If repair makes more sense than replacement, that's what you'll be told.
Family in the Bay
Simon has family roots in Torbay across more than one generation. Parents in the area, children who grew up locally, and the kind of long Saturday-morning chat about who's doing what that comes with knowing the same people for decades.
None of that is essential to fitting a boiler. But it does mean the engineer knocking at your door is here for the long term, isn't passing through on the way to retirement somewhere else, and is going to be the same person looking after your boiler in five and ten years' time.

Specialist training direct from each of these manufacturers means longer warranties, deeper diagnostic knowledge, and confidence that the boiler is being fitted by someone the manufacturer has signed off.
Worcester Bosch and Baxi are also installed and serviced regularly. Other UK boiler brands considered on request.
Where we work
Boilerworx covers the whole of Torbay: Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, and the surrounding villages. That's a deliberate choice. A small enough area to attend most callouts within 24 hours, and small enough that customers in any of the three towns get the same response time.
