Service pricing
No membership fees, no contracts. The price reflects the work the boiler actually needs.
Payment by card, bank transfer or cash. Repairs identified during the service are quoted separately and only carried out with your agreement.
What's included in a service
A proper service is more than a glance and a sticker. Here's everything covered in a standard service visit.
- Visual inspection Casing removed. Internal components checked for corrosion, wear, leaks, and signs of overheating.
- Flue and ventilation check Flue inspected internally and externally. Air supply and ventilation paths confirmed clear.
- Flue gas analysis Combustion gases measured with a calibrated analyser. Results recorded to confirm the boiler is burning cleanly and safely.
- Gas pressure check Working gas pressure measured at the boiler and compared against the manufacturer's specification.
- Burner and heat exchanger inspection Burner and heat exchanger checked for wear, corrosion, and debris. Cleaned where needed and where access allows.
- Condensate trap inspection Trap removed and cleaned. Condensate pipe checked for blockages and correct fall.
- Expansion vessel pressure check Vessel charge tested and recharged if low. A failing vessel is a common cause of pressure loss.
- System pressure and inhibitor check Cold and hot pressure recorded. Inhibitor level checked with a test kit. Top-up offered if low.
- Safety device tests Pressure relief valve, overheat thermostat, and flame failure devices all tested.
- Operational check Boiler run through both heating and hot water cycles. Performance confirmed against expected values.
- Written service record You receive a printed or emailed service record listing everything checked, all measured values, and any recommendations.
If something needs attention beyond the scope of a standard service (a worn part, a system in need of a flush, a failing component), we'll explain it on site and quote separately. No extra work happens without your say-so.

Why service your boiler every year
A yearly service is one of those jobs that feels easy to skip until something goes wrong. Here's why it's worth booking in.
Keeps your warranty valid
Most boiler manufacturers require an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer to maintain the warranty. Skip a year and you may find the manufacturer refuses to honour repairs that would otherwise be covered. The cost of a service is small compared to the cost of replacing a heat exchanger out of warranty.
Catches small faults before they become big ones
Many of the breakdowns we attend in winter are problems that were already developing in summer. A service spots wear on the burner, sludge in the system, leaking valves, and pressure drift early, when fixing them is quick and cheap. Far cheaper than the same repair plus an emergency call-out in January.
Keeps the boiler running efficiently
A boiler that's running with a clogged heat exchanger, a tired fan, or incorrect gas pressure burns more gas to deliver the same heat. Servicing restores efficiency, which means lower bills through winter. The savings often cover the cost of the service itself.
Keeps your family safe
Boilers burn gas. A blocked flue, faulty seal, or cracked heat exchanger can leak carbon monoxide into the house. Carbon monoxide has no smell and no colour. A proper service includes a flue gas analysis and a visual check of every safety-critical component. It's the most important thing the service does.
Extends the life of the boiler
A serviced boiler typically lasts 15 years or more. A neglected one can fail in 8 to 10. The cost of a new boiler is significant. An annual service is a small fraction of that and delays the replacement conversation by years.
Gives you a documented record
You get a written service record after each visit. This matters if you sell the house (buyers and surveyors look for it), if you make a warranty claim, or if your insurer asks for proof of maintenance. It's also handy for landlords proving they've kept the property safe.
When to book
You'll get a reminder
Once you're on the books, you'll get an automatic reminder one month before your service is due. No need to track dates yourself. The reminder gives you plenty of time to find a slot that works without leaving it too late and missing the warranty window.
Don't wait if you've missed one
If it's been more than 12 months since your last service, book the next available slot. The longer the gap, the more likely a service finds something that needs attention. Catching it now is always cheaper than catching it during a winter breakdown.
Spring and summer slots fill faster than you'd think
Demand for routine servicing peaks in autumn when people remember they meant to book one. Booking out of season usually means a quicker appointment, more flexibility on date and time, and a calmer visit (no rush to the next emergency).
Common questions
How long does a service take?
Usually 40 minutes to an hour for a standard service on a boiler that's already in good condition. A major strip-down service on a boiler that's overdue some attention can take up to two hours. We'll let you know before doing extra work.
Do I need to do anything before he arrives?
Make sure the boiler is accessible. If it's in a cupboard with shelves of stuff in front, clearing them helps. Have the boiler manual to hand if you can find it. Otherwise, no, you don't need to prepare anything.
Will the heating be off while you work?
The boiler will be off for the duration of the service. In a cold snap that might be noticeable in the house, but it's only a couple of hours and the boiler comes back online as soon as the work's complete.
What if you find a problem?
If a problem turns up, you'll get an explanation of what it is, what it'll cost, and how urgent it is. You decide. Small fixes (a worn seal, an inhibitor top-up) can often be done on the same visit. Bigger jobs (a heat exchanger replacement, a system flush) get quoted separately and booked for another day.
How often does it need doing?
Once a year. Most manufacturer warranties require it. Most insurers expect it. And practically, a year is about the right gap to catch wear before it becomes a fault.
Can you service a boiler that hasn't been touched in years?
Yes, and you should. The longer a boiler goes without a service, the more likely a service finds something. You'll get an honest assessment of what state it's in and what it needs. Sometimes a neglected boiler just needs a thorough clean. Sometimes there's underlying damage that wasn't visible before the casing came off.
